To date, there is no legislation regulating the osteopath profession in Quebec, as well as the professional training for this profession. This explains the significant differences that can exist between osteopathy schools, both in terms of their pedagogy, program content, and the number of course hours.
The Office des Professions du Québec (OPQ) has been studying the project for an order for osteopaths in Quebec since 2014.
In June 2022, in the document titled “Notice on the Opportunity to Establish a Professional Order of Osteopaths – Spring 2022”, the Office des Professions du Québec issued a favorable opinion on the creation of a distinct order dedicated to osteopaths in Quebec.
Also in the document “Notice on the Opportunity to Establish a Professional Order of Osteopaths – Spring 2022” revealed in June 2022, the Office des professions du Québec outlines the admission conditions that will be applied to practicing osteopaths wishing to obtain a license from the Order of Osteopaths of Quebec. It is notably mentioned that candidates will be required to have completed their osteopathy training in person.
The educational program of IEOQ offers a comprehensive theoretical and practical training that meets the criteria of Anglo-Saxon and European reference standards of the World Health Organization, as well as those of the Office des Professions du Québec, which advocates for in-person teaching of osteopathy (June 2022). Our goal is thus to anticipate the requirements of the future order of osteopaths of Quebec in terms of rigor and seriousness, and to enable our students to access it. |
